Sometimes the operator waits for a genuine deposit conversation and injects a corrected address partway through. Once the transfer confirms, there is no chargeback and the exchange cannot help, because the funds never reached them. Domains differ by a hyphen, a doubled letter, an unusual top-level domain, or a character from another alphabet that renders identically. Check the address, then check the channel
Run the destination through the lookup before any deposit and expect that a freshly generated impersonation address will not be listed — coverage always lags rotation. The stronger test is the channel: does this address appear on the deposit page of the account you logged into yourself, on this exact chain, right now. If yes, send a small test and confirm it credits before the rest. If the address only exists in a message, no lookup result should change your answer.
